Summer Vacation Day 8

It was off to Halifax for a night to celebrate our Anniversary without any kiddies with us, the first time since we were married that we had a night with no kiddies. It was a great day and in the end we wished we had planned it better to have 2 nights to fit everything in...but also we saw some things that we wished we had the kids for.
After a great Chinese lunch and a trip through the Halifax Market we came accross a Natal Day celebration featuring a firemen's competition.

This was a grueling competition with Firefighters from all over, we even saw a fireman from Honolulu and Amherst. The firefighters in full gear would run the course up 6 flights of stairs and then had to lift a weight to the top and then run back down.

Never figured out what they did here but they were using and axe to compete the task.

Then they would run down through the hydrant obstacles

And take the hose back to fire at the target.

After hitting the target they had to pick up the 175lb dummy and drag them backwards the length of the course. They were totally spent after the course.

We then came accross the Athabaskan Navy ship that was allowing walk on tours

During our tour we came accross this officer that was telling us some stories of the history of the ship until we heard a knocking underneath him...

Up popped another officer from a lower deck

Here is an overview of the fireman course from the deck of the ship

The harbour was filled with other ships

Even Theodore the tugboat was out giving tours of the harbour
We found the hallways and stairwells pretty cramped, I would hate to be in a rush trying to get through.

It was a pretty cool view from the front of the ship

Now that's a cannon

Then it was off to our hotel to get checked in for the night, it was a very spacious room and completely perfect.

We hit the mall for a while to shop for the kids before heading back to turn in for the night.
